Joanne Crabtree and Paul Mills, known individually as pioneers in Canadian roots music, teamed up early in 2006 to produce a CD showcasing her warmly vibrant voice and his playfully elegant guitar. Now regularly performing as Crabtree&Mills, Joanne and Paul are excited and proud to present their CD, Flight of Fancy, to the world.
In addition to his work at CBC, Paul Mills has been part of the Canadian folk music scene and recording industry for over thirty years. He has produced well over one hundred albums working with artists such as the late Stan Rogers (all but one of Rogers’ albums were produced by Mills), Sharon, Lois and Bram, Eric Nagler, Ron Hynes and John Allan Cameron.
Joanne Crabtree's career as a solo folk singer began in 1960 at a Grey Cup party at Toronto's Park Plaza Hotel and ended in 1966 at Toronto's Riverboat in Yorkville. In between were many coffee houses and campus concerts in Ontario, Western Canada and the British Isles. BILL COLGATE (singer/songwriter, vocals, harmonica) is a bar band singer turned actor turned critically lauded and award winning singer/songwriter. His music has been variously described as "uprooted roots" or "a meeting of the wry lyrical wit of Lyle Lovett with the vocal muscularity of Bruce Springsteen". Awards include: 2nd Grand Prize Overall in The USA Songwriting Competition (out of over 32,000 entries), 1st Place Gospel in the same competition, 5th Place in the Gospel category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for "Let It Be There" and a finalist in The Mountain Stage NewSong Contest for "Emperor's New Clothes".
Bill was born in Welland and raised in Toronto. As an actor, he has appeared in every aspect of the profession and worked with such notables as Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Keaton and Kiefer Sutherland. As a singer/songwriter, he has shared the concert stage with, among others,: Ron Sexsmith, Jim Cuddy, and the late, great John Lee Hooker. http://www.billcolgate.com/

CAM MACINNES (electric and National guitars, Dobro) moved from Edmonton to Toronto in 1980 and has performed in venues around the world including London, Cardiff, Nashville, New York City and all across Canada. Performing with such bands as: Sun, Franklin Stove, Hot Cottage, Destiny, Drastic Measures, RaRu, Perfect World, Lee Whalen, Mary Jo Eustace, Gayle Ackroyd, Melanie Doane, Melody Ranch, Besharah, Ana and Bill Colgate and the Urbane Guerillas. Cam’s been a feature ﬁlm and tv composer and performer and has played live on numerous television and radio shows. He
also has extensive experience as a recording engineer and editor. Co-producing Bill Colgate's CD “Waiting For Simon” and Mary Jo Eustace’s debut CD “Bone And Marrow”. Currently, he is producing Gayle Ackroyd’s new CD. http://www.cammacinnes.com/

JOE GAITANIS (acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo) was born and raised in Toronto and has been playing professionally for 25+ years. In addition to guitar, Joe also plays banjo and mandolin and is a strong backup vocalist. Joe has been playing with Bill for over a year now and with Cam MacInnes for more years than either friend would care to enumerate. However, as a result, he and MacInnes have forged a potent and complementary string duo that is even greater than the sum of it's considerable parts. Joe has also played with Andie Duncan and Ana Mulrooney and is currently a member of successful children's music group the Bee's Knees.
